I.S.U. Election Results for President and Steward Body

Weirton, West Virginia—Mark Glyptis was elected to an unprecedented fourth straight term as President of the Independent Steelworkers Union.
The 27 year veteran employee of Weirton Steel Corporation garnered 2,326 votes in balloting counted Monday afternoon.
Union presidential contenders Greg Wrkich came in second with 396 votes, followed by Richard L. Burge, who picked up 215 votes.
The fourth straight presidential term sets a new record in union politics.
"I am deeply honored and humbled by the support shown for my candidacy. The vote means a great deal to me personally," Glyptis said.
The president of nearly 3600 union members said his next priority is preparing for contract negotiations later this year.
"Our current labor agreement ends next March so we will probably begin negotiations by late August or early September," Glyptis said.
Meanwhile, the steward elections Monday resulted in nine run-off elections now scheduled for June 1 through June 10.
According to Union Hall Office Manager Jim Andreozzi, the mail-in balloting ran smoothly and without problems.
