Independent Steelworkers Union (I.S.U.) is the official labor organization of the
union-represented employees of the Weirton Steel Corporation. The I.S.U. was officially organized in 1951 in order to form a collective bargaining agency, free and independent from all outside interference, domination or influence, for the purpose of promoting and protecting the general welfare of ourselves in our relations with our employer. There are approximately 3600 card-carrying I.S.U. members. The majority of the Union is comprised of production and maintenance hourly members. There are about 400 salary non-exempt employees and a professional unit at the Company's Medical Department is about 10 in number. The objective of the Independent Steelworkers Union is to bargain collectively with employers on all matters pertaining to employment, wages, grievances, conditions of work and the general welfare of employees. The I.S.U. is composed of the Tin Mill Division, Steel Works No. 1 Division, Steel Works No. 2 Division, Sheet Mill Division, Strip Steel Division, Salary Clerical and Technical Division, and Professional Division. The Independent Steelworkers Union Hall is located at 2971 West Street, Weirton, West Virginia, and the main general telephone number is (304) 748-8080. The I.S.U.'s fax telephone number is (304) 748-8158. |
