ISU COMMENTS ON FAVORABLE ITC RULING The ITC ruled unanimously that the domestic steel industry had been harmed by the importation of hot rolled steel from China, India, Indonesia, Argentina, South Africa, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Romania, Taiwan and the Ukraine. As a result, the US Commerce Department can now initiate its own investigation. "This is a most welcome decision for our United States Steel Industry," Glyptis said. "However, this is only one part of the puzzle. While this decision vindicates our claim that our steel industry has been hurt by illegally subsidized steel imports, we still require a comprehensive solution to this problem." President Glyptis also thanked the various steel producers who joined with Weirton Steel Corporation in filing these Trade Cases. He also emphasized for the first time, mini mills within the United States joined in a trade action against foreign steel importers. "This signifies that support for this issue is growing throughout the country. I believe that other unions and industries will ultimately join us in our fight. This is only one battle in a war for the very survival of the domestic steel industry," Glyptis emphasized. |
