Endorsement of Congressman Bob Ney

Weirton, West Virginia-The Executive Committee of the Independent Steelworkers Union has endorsed Ohio Congressman Bob Ney for re-election to the 18th Congressional seat.

The announcement came today at Union headquarters in Weirton, West Virginia.

"Our Union Executive Committee was unanimous in this decision, and it was a fairly easy endorsement because Bob Ney has been outstanding in his work for Ohio Valley steelworkers and the working people of his congressional district," Mark Glyptis, President of the 3600 member Union announced.

"In our year and a half long "Stand Up For Steel" campaign, Bob Ney has rallied with us in Steubenville, he has marched and rallied with us in downtown Weirton and he played a major role in our massive rally and march last year in Washington, D.C.," Glyptis explained.

"In fact, it was Bob Ney who lead us literally to the gates of the White House and persuaded a Clinton Administration official to come out and talk to us that afternoon," Glyptis added.

The Union Executive Committee made note of Ney's leadership role in the House of Representatives.

"Bob Ney has sponsored and co-sponsored every piece of legislation aimed at stopping illegal foreign steel imports, sometimes even bucking his own party leadership in the process," Glyptis declared.

"But it's more than just steelworkers. If you look at Bob Ney's voting record and constituent services, he has worked long and hard for all of the people of the eastern Ohio," Glyptis said.

Glyptis said the Union will count on Ney in the future.

"The fight against illegal foreign steel imports is far from over and we need Bob Ney in the Congress to continue the battle to save our jobs," Glyptis noted.

Glyptis also said the Union's Executive Committee has offered to work for Ney in his re-election campaign.

"And we will encourage our Union members who live in Ohio to vote for Bob Ney  for re-election to the 18th Congressional seat," he added.
