What Steel Import Crisis?

Import levels are slightly down one month, up the next. Legislation passes; legislation fails. Steel executives and union leaders say one thing; someone in Washington or overseas says another. Claim and counterclaim. The debate goes on and on.

Last Sunday evening, in a small church in downtown Steubenville, Ohio, a special service was held with prayer and song for the laid-off steelworkers of the Upper Ohio Valley. The collection plate was passed, the money sent to a food bank for the unemployed.

Anyone, anywhere, can say what they want. But the fact is, illegal steel imports and lack of enforcement of our trade laws put these people on the street. Why else would the service have been held?

This is a people issue and people -- Americans -- are hurting.   Not just in the Upper Ohio Valley, but in steel communities throughout our nation.
