Congressional Steel Caucus Member Briefing On Behalf of the Domestic Steel Industry in Washington, D.C.

Weirton, WV 26062-Independent Steelworkers Union President Mark Glyptis announced today that he will testify on behalf of the domestic steel industry at the Congressional Steel Caucus Member Briefing, which will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2000, in Room B-308 of the Rayburn Building, Washington, D.C.

Congressman Ralph Regula, (R-OH), is Chairman of the hearing, which has been convened to present a response to the recent Commerce Department Steel Report and as well provide a forum for discussion regarding the current state of the U.S. steel industry, including the outlook for steelworkers. Vice Chairman is Congressman John P. Murtha (D-PA). The Steel Caucus Executive Committee will be represented by Congressman Jack Quinn (R-NY), Chairman, and Congressman Peter J. Visclosky (D-IN).,Vice Chairman.

Other steel industry figures expected to testify at the hearing include: Peter Kelly, Chairman & CEO of LTV; Vice-Chairman of AISI; Paul Wilhelm, President of U.S. Steel Group of USX Corp.; Vice-Chairman of AISI; George Becker, International President of the USWA; Charles P. Sanida, President, IPSCO Steel Inc., Chairman, Board of Directors, Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA); Clyde P. Selig, President, Commercial Metals Steel Group, Member, Board of Directors, SMA; H. L. Kephart, President & CEO of G.O. Carlson, Inc., Chairman of the Speciality Steel Industry of North America; James Feeney, Sr. Vice President, Wheatland Tube, Chairman of Pipe and Tube Imports; and Nicholas C. Tolerico, Executive Vice President of Thyssen, Inc., N.A., Chairman of the U.S. Governmental Affairs Committee of the Steel Service Center Institute.
